Greece starts third bailout talks amid secret drachma revelations

Negotiations on Greeceā€™s third bailout are beginning Monday amid more upheaval in the leftist Greek government, EU Observer reports. Former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, who resigned earlier this month, has revealed that he was working on a secret plan to set up a parallel currency. Varoufakis said he got the green light from Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, just prior to their Syriza party coming to power. Varoufakis then hired an IT expert to hack into the General Secretariat for Public Revenues in order to get the information needed to set up a parallel banking system based on IOUs. Many Greeks are growing increasingly disillusioned with the Syriza government. Syriza leaders are expected to meet Monday to discuss the latest developments.
