Zaman newspaper: Defiant last edition as Turkish police raid

Turkey’s biggest newspaper, Zaman, managed to go to print with its Saturday edition just before Turkish police raided its headquarters on Friday as part of a government takeover of the paper, the BBC reports. The headline of the Saturday edition said, “The Constitution is suspended.” The front page also stated, “The Turkish press has experienced one of its darkest days in history.” Turkish police fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters outside the Zaman building on both Friday and Saturday.
