Russia seeks scapegoat after nanny arrested with child’s severed head

RFE/RL covers the reaction in Russia to a nanny from Uzbekistan walking around Moscow with the severed head of a 4-year-old girl she was supposed to be caring for. The woman was also screaming Allahu Akbar and shouting that she was a terrorist. It reportedly took Russian police one hour to respond and arrest the woman. After the incident, a Russian politician called for the licensing of nannies, and nationalists called for the end of “Russia For Everyon” immigration policy. Anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny pointed out it takes Russian special forces five minutes to arrest a protester with an anti-Putin banner, yet it takes one hour to round up a woman shouting Allahu Akbar and holding a child’s head.
