Bulgaria’s Georgieva enters race to run United Nations

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov announced Wednesday he is changing Sofia’s nomination for UN secretary-general from UNESCO chief Irina Bokova to EU budget chief Kristalina Georgieva, Politico reports. Georgieva is a last-minute candidate, but diplomats say she offers the best chance for an Eastern European or a woman candidate to overtake the frontrunner in the race, former Portuguese PM Antonio Guterres.
