Putin names ally Sergei Naryshkin as new foreign spy chief

Amid reports that Putin plans to combine Russia’s intelligence services, Putin appointed longtime ally Sergei Naryshkin as head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the BBC reports. Naryshkin previously served as Russian parliament speaker and as Putin’s chief of staff, and he is reported to have worked alongside Putin at the KGB. Naryshkin is currently under U.S. and EU sanctions.
