Armenian protests continue despite suspension of power price rise

The Armenian government decided Saturday to use state funds to temporarily cover the planned electricity rate hike, but thousands of Armenians have continued protesting, Reuters reports. Protesters are demanding that the government reverse the 16 percent rate hike. Russia owns Armenia’s gas and electric supplies, as well as its distribution networks, and many Armenians suspect rampant corruption in the subsidiary of a Russian firm that is running Armenia’s power grid.
