Ukraine complains of intensifying fire as rebels launch ‘540 attacks in a week’

Newsweek cites the Ukrainian military in reporting that Russian-backed rebels are firing on Ukrainian positions 80 times a day. Tensions have risen in Eastern Ukraine since May when the Russian-backed separatists launched an assault on the town of Marinka, which was the first major attempt at an advance since the February ceasefire agreement. NATO commander U.S. General Phillip Breedlove warned last week of a return to heavy fighting, saying “Mr. Putin” is not done in Ukraine.
