Macedonia: A pawn in the Russian geopolitical game?

A Deutsche Welle article suggests embattled Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski is turning to Moscow for support since he has lost the trust of the U.S. and EU amid his wiretapping scandal. Gruevski has refused to join western sanctions against Russia and has agreed to include Macedonia on the rout of Russia’s planned Turkish Stream pipeline, even though most Macedonians want to join the EU and the pipeline may never be built. In turn, Russia media have launched a propaganda campaign to drum up support for Gruevski and to blame the Macedonian political crisis on the West.
