The results of the new German census show, of the 19.3 million Germans with migrant backgrounds, 2.6 million come from the Balkans, a Balkan Insight report states. Of the 2.6 million Germans with Balkan backgrounds, 859,000 have roots in Romania, 398,000 in Croatia and 273,000 in Bulgaria, which combined total 1.5 million immigrants to Germany from the EU’s three newest states. Additionally, 373,000 Bosnians, 433,000 Kosovars and 324,000 Serbians are living in Germany, meaning more than 1 million people immigrated to Germany from just three former Yugoslav states. Turks, the largest immigrant group in Germany, total 2.78 million.
