UN says migrant flow through Balkans to reach 3,000 a day

About 3,000 migrants will cross through the Balkans on the way to the EU everyday, according to the UN. RFE/RL reports the UN’s refugee commissioner said there will be no end to the influx of migrants in the coming months. Violence in Syria and Iraq coupled with deteriorating conditions in refugee camps in neighbouring Middle Eastern countries are the primary reasons for the surge in migrants, according to the UN. Most of the migrants are traveling north through Greece, Macedonia and Serbia on their way to the EU. Germany and Sweeden have thus far taken in 43 percent of the asylum seekers in the EU.
