Pro-EU incumbent wins Moldova mayoral runoff

The pro-West incumbent has been reelected mayor of Chisinau, Moldova’s capital, RFE/RL reports. Dorin Chirtoaca, deputy head of the Liberal Party, received 53.46 percent of the vote. The pro-Russia Socialist Party candidate received 46.56 percent. The Socialist Party says it will contest the results. Local elections in Moldova are seen as a test of whether the country will continue its path of European integration or whether it will more closely align with Russia.
