Serbs protest against Vucic for fifth week, demand end to attacks

For the fifth consecutive week, thousands of Serbians braved the cold to protest against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and demand an end to attacks against journalists and opposition figures, RFE/RL reports. The protests were prompted by a gang of thugs beating up opposition politician Borko Stefanovic and have expanded into broader anti-government demonstrations. Vucic has responded by saying he will not give in to opposition demands for electoral reform and increased media freedom regardless of the number of protesters on the streets. Vucic also responded by threatening to call a snap election to demonstrate the ruling party’s strength.
