With elections scheduled to take place in the Russia-backed separatist regions of Donetsk and Lugansk on Nov. 11, Moscow clashed with the West at the UN over the planned vote in Eastern Ukraine, the Washington Post reports. Moscow appeared totally isolated at a UN Security Council meeting held Tuesday, in which no country other than Russia voted to allow the president of the Central Electoral Committee in Luhansk to brief the council. Meanwhile, the U.S., as well as eight European states, issued statements describing the planned elections as illegitimate and saying they violate the Minsk agreements.
