Khashoggi’s death is highlighting the Ottoman-Saudi Islamic rift

In a Foreign Policy piece Turkish journalist Mustafa Akyol delves into the centuries-long rift between the Ottomans and the Saudis over supremacy in the Sunni Muslim world that is currently being highlighted by the brewing feud between Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. Akyol writes that, in contemporary times, Turkey’s Islamist government and the Saudis are clashing over relations with Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood, with whom Ankara is much friendlier than Riyadh.
