Spain tells EU to cut Kosovo from enlargement plan

In advance of the European Commission adopting a new Western Balkans enlargement policy, Spain is demanding that Kosovo be ousted from the group of six Balkan states that could potentially join the EU, according to an EU Observer report. Spain, which is one of five EU members that do not recognize Kosovo’s independence, is currently dealing with its own separatist crisis in Catalonia. Supporters of the Catalonia independence movement have been trying to make political gain out of the EU’s decision to support Kosovo’s independence from Serbia.
