Bosnian Croat dies after taking poison at UN court

Wartime chief of the Bosnian Croat military Slobodan Praljak swallowed what appears to be poison in the courtroom at the Hague Tribunal as a judge was reading out a guilty verdict and 20-year prison sentence for crimes against humanity, Balkan Insight reports. Praljak interrupted the proceeding by shouting: “Slobodan Praljak is not a war criminal. I reject your judgment,” and then drinking liquid that he said was poison. Praljak was rushed to the hospital and later died. On Wednesday, the UN court in The Hague likewise upheld the convictions of five other political and military leaders of Herzeg-Bosnia, an unrecognized Croat statelet that existed during the Bosnian War.
