A UK court ruled Wednesday that Ukraine still owes Russia the $3 billion that Moscow lent to Kiev in 2013 when the pro-Russian Viktor Yanukovych was still Ukrainian president, Forbes report. The loan was mostly set up for Ukrainian state energy company Naftogaz to pay Gazprom, its Russian counterpart. Naftogaz and Gazprom are currently duelling in a series of legal cases being heard in European courts, and thus far, Moscow is getting the better of Kiev. Ukraine is currently appealing a ruling that allows Gazprom to increase its gas shipments to and through Germany via the Nord Stream and OPAL pipelines. Likewise, Naftogaz is seeking to recover billions of dollars from Gazprom in a gas purchasing price dispute.
