More Crimean power shortages likely with end of Ukraine supplies

An agreement stipulating that Ukraine supplies electricity to Crimea ended because Putin refused to sign a contract stating the annexed peninsula belongs to Ukraine, RFE/RL reports. Now Crimeans are expected to endure three or four months of electricity shortages and rolling blackouts as Russia builds undersea cables that will transmit power to Crimea. Crimeans have already gone a month with on-and-off electricity supplies because activists attacked transmission lines in Ukraine.
