Ukraine, Slovakia condemn Russian gas pipeline project

The prime ministers of Ukraine and Slovakia have condemned Russia’s latest effort to bypass Ukraine in its gas deliveries to Europe, AP reports. Russia’s Gazprom recently struck a deal with European energy companies to build Nord Stream 2, which would double the capacity of an existing pipeline that transports gas under the Baltic Sea and links directly to Germany. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said the plan is anti-European, and it will threaten the gas supplies of Southeastern Europe and lead to higher prices.
