Serbian military drill with Russia irks EU

Belgrade plans to participate in a “Slavic Brotherhood” military exercise in September, in which Russian, Belarusian and Serbian troops will train together in Russia, Balkan Insight reports. The decision to take part in a joint exercise with Russia sends the wrong signal, an EU spokesperson said.¬†As an EU candidate, Serbia is expected to harmonize its foreign policy with the EU, but¬†Belgrade is still trying to walk a tightrope between the West and Russia. Serbia has planned several military drills with NATO, but Belgrade has refused to join EU sanctions on Russia.
