Serbian military drill with Russia irks EU

Belgrade plans to participate in a “Slavic Brotherhood” military exercise in September, in which Russian, Belarusian and Serbian troops will train together in Russia, Balkan Insight reports. The decision to take part in a joint exercise with Russia sends the wrong signal, an EU spokesperson said. As an EU candidate, Serbia is expected to harmonize its foreign policy with the EU, but Belgrade is still trying to walk a tightrope between the West and Russia. Serbia has planned several military drills with NATO, but Belgrade has refused to join EU sanctions on Russia.
