Latest poll reveals falling support for Turkey’s AKP

Erdogan’s attempt to reclaim power via snap elections is so far backfiring. Zaman reports a poll conducted by Gezici Research shows Erdogan’s AKP has lost further ground since the June 7 election in which the AKP lost its parliamentary majority. The AKP received 40.8 percent of the vote on June 7. It is now polling at 39.2. Erdogan’s strategy of creating a war-like situation in Turkey is also backfiring, according to the Gezici poll. 56 percent of people polled blamed the recent violence in Turkey on Erdogan. Meanwhile the pro-Kurdish party, HDP, is gaining ground. HDP is now polling at 14.2 percent. It received 13.1 percent of the vote in June.
