Russia hits EU allies with food ban

Russia has extended its ban on agricultural imports to include Albania, Montenegro, Iceland and Lichtenstein, EU Observer reports. The four non-EU member states were targeted because they aligned themselves with EU sanctions on Russia. Additionally, Russia is threatening to ban Ukrainian agricultural exports, beginning next year, if Kiev implements the trade provisions in its EU association treaty. Both Macedonia and Serbia dodged the new batch of counter-sanctions. The Macedonian and Serbian governments have refused to join the EU sanctions on Russia, even though they are required to do so under EU accession commitments.
