Russia bars protest leader Navalny’s party from poll

Russian authorities have kicked out a coalition led by opposition leader Aleksei Navalny from participating in upcoming regional elections in Novosibirsk, Russia’s third largest city, RFE/RL reports. The election commission in Novosibirsk claims the coalition did not produce enough authentic signatures. Leaders of the RPR-Parnas alliance say they were banned for political reasons. The RPR-Parnas alliance is a merger of the parties led by Navalny and former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov.
