Controversial Russian politician named deputy in Ukraine

Russian politician Maria Gaidar has been nominated to serve as the deputy under former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili, who now has Ukrainian citizenship and is the governor of the Odessa region. Gaidar, the daughter of former Russian prime minister Yegor Gaidar, is a vocal critic of Putin, but she has said Crimea belongs to Russia and has been reluctant to denounce Moscow’s intervention in Eastern Ukraine, AFP reports.
