Russia and Iran are trading places

Iran is becoming more friendly with the West, while Russia is isolating itself, RFE/RL’s Brian Whitmore states. Whitmore also notes that, following the Iran nuclear deal announced Tuesday, Moscow stands to gain business developing Tehrans’s nuclear program and eventually selling arms to Iran. But, Russia will now face stiff competition from Iran in global oil and gas markets. Also, oil prices could fall as much as $15 a barrel next year, which will further weaken Russia’s already struggling economy.
