G7 leaders make case for extending Russia sanctions

EU Observer reports that Obama, Merkel and UK PM David Cameron are each supporting extending sanctions against Russia. Last week, Russian-backed forces launched an offensive on the Ukrainian town Marinka. EU sanctions on Russia could expire at the end of June, and pro-Russian states like Hungary, Greece and Italy have criticised the idea of extending them. EU Council chief Donald Tusk said at the G7 in Germany that it is “realistic” the EU will extend the sanctions.
