Turkish election: Ruling party on course to lose majority

The Guardian reports that, with 97 percent of the vote counted, Erdogan’s AKP is projected to obtain 41 percent of the vote. Projections give the AKP 260 seats, which is 10 below the minimum needed to maintain its majority in the Turkish parliament. AKP received about 49 percent of the vote in the 2011 parliamentary elections. AKP has maintained a parliamentary majority since coming to power in 2002.
