Vucic claims U.S. backing for Serbia’s EU goals

After meeting with U.S. Senator John McCain and Obama’s national security advisor, Susan Rice, Serbian Prime Minister Alexander Vucic said Serbia can now count on Washington’s support for its bid to join the European Union, Balkan Insight reports. While in Washginton, Vucic also discussed Serbia’s need to diversify its energy sources. Serbia is currently on the proposed route of Russia’s Turkish Stream pipeline, but Washington says Belgrade should reduce its dependence on Russian gas and it can do that in part by joining the Tran Adriatic Pipeline project, which will pipe Azerbaijani gas to Europe.
