Serbia to diversify its energy suppliers

EurActiv reports that Serbia is pursuing participation in the Trans Adriatic Pipeline project, which will transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Belgrade also says it will establish a gas interconnection with Bulgaria. Serbia, which has maintained close ties with Russia, is currently on the proposed route of Russia’s Turkish Stream pipeline. Serious talks about financing the Serbian section of the pipeline have yet to occur, though. Both the U.S. and EU oppose the Turkish Stream project, and they are encouraging Serbia, as well as other Balkan countries, to cut their dependence on Russian gas. Serbian Prime Minister Alexander Vucic is currently on a visit to the U.S.
