Ahead of this week’s Eurasian Union meeting, Putin is calling for the Russian government and central bank to begin pursuing the possibility of a currency union with its partnering countries. The Moscow-led Eurasian Union currently consists of former Soviet states Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, in addition to Russia. Kyrgyzstan will join the trade bloc later this year.
