Boris Nemtsov, a Russian political ‘golden boy’ who battled Putin, dead at 55

RFERL runs an in-depth obituary of Boris Nemtsov, whom attackers shot dead near the Kremlin late Friday night. The obit chronicles Nemtsov’s rise in Russian politics, during which he was seen as a possible successor to then-president Boris Yeltsin, as well as his slide from power and his years spent leading opposition against Putin. RFERL’s Carl Schreck writes that Yeltsin was “a dynamic and debonair politician” who was “an ardent proponent of liberal economic reforms.”
