Troubled Moldova edges towards formation of new pro-EU government

Three pro-EU Moldovan parties have agreed to form a new ruling coalition, Reuters reports. Moldova’s pro-western prime minister recently stepped down amid allegations that he forged his high school diploma. The country has also been troubled financially since $1 billion recently went missing from Moldovan banks. If a new pro-EU government forms, Moldova will likely unlock funds from both the EU and IMF. Pro-Russian sentiments have been on the rise in Moldova, and pro-EU parties have barely edged pro-Russian sentiments in recent elections. The new pro-EU coalition is expected to have only 52 of 101 seats in the parliament.
