Turkish paper investigated after Syria arms claim

Turkey has launched an investigation into Turkish daily Cumhuriyet, claiming the newspaper broke a terrorism law by publishing a photo that shows Turkish intelligence carrying arms that they were reportedly delivering to Syrian rebels. The prosecutors who ordered a search of the truck with the weapons stash, as well as the military officers who carried out the search, are also under investigation. Turkey’s Islamist government claims supporters of its top enemy, U.S. based cleric Fethuallah Gulen, ordered the search. Ankara continues to call for the toppling to Syria’s government, while supporting jihadist groups that are fighting the Assad regime.
