Russia’s liberals in the crosshairs

With Russia’s economy still weak and parliamentary elections scheduled for September, opposition activists are getting assaulted with cakes, eggs, caustic liquids and fists, an article in the National Interest explains. Pro-Kremlin groups and media are also labelling protesters as traitors, enemies and foreign agents, and some are being prosecuted for extremism. Additionally, Putin is creating the National Guard and other groups to stop Russians from protesting.
