TAP pipeline works begin just as its prospects dim

Construction on the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which will transport Azeri gas from the Turkish-Greek border to  Southern Italy, began on Tuesday. TAP will deliver 10 bcm of gas a year to Greece, Bulgaria, Albania and Italy.  A bne IntelliNews piece states TAP is being built at a time when both gas prices and demand are low in Europe, raising questions about the profitability of the pipeline. Although TAP will deliver a relatively small amount of gas, it will make a sizeable impact in the Balkans and help countries like Bulgaria reduce their dependence on Russian gas.
