Have Turkey-PKK clashes crossed fatal threshold?

Al- Monitor columnist and former Turkish military adviser, Metin Gurcan, argues that the PKK shot down a Turkish military helicopter using a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile last week. Ankara claims its helicopter crashed, killing two of its troops, because of a technical problem. However, a video released by the PKK appears to corroborate the theory that Kurdish militants shot down the chopper. If that is the case, it is only the third Turkish helicopter the PKK has shot down in three decades of fighting, and it will likely lead to an escalation in the current war.
