Thousands attend anti-Russian rally in Georgian capital

Thousands of people gathered in Tbilisi on Sunday to protest negotiations between the Georgian government and Russia’s Gazprom, RFE/RL reports. Pro-western demonstrators have been pressuring the government not to cut a deal with Gazprom, which they say would make Georgia dependent on Russian gas. On Saturday, the government appeared to succumb to the pressure as it abandoned its initial plan to buy gas from Russia and signed a deal with Azerbaijan to fully cover Georgia’s gas supplies.
