Russia ‘weaponizing’ refugees against EU

U.S. Gen. Philip Breedlove, the commander of NATO forces in Europe, said Tuesday during testimony before the Senate that Russia and Assad are “deliberately weaponizing migration” in order to overwhelm Europe, EU Observer reports. Breedlove said he could not think of any other reason Russia and Assad’s forces would indiscriminately use weapons against civilians in Northern Syria. Breedlove also said Muslim refugees arriving in Europe will be susceptible to recruitment by terror groups. Additionally, Breedlove said the Syria situation has become a distraction from Russia’s aggression in Europe and that Moscow is using conflicts in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine to coerce its neighbors.
