Russia’s staging bases in Armenia

Armine Sahakyan, a human rights activist in Armenia, writes in the Huffington Post that Russia is beefing up its military presence in Armenia, particularly at Russian bases near the Turkish border. This allows Moscow to throw its weight around in the region, even in countries outside of Russia’s traditional sphere of influence, Sahakyan writes. Sahakyan also notes Putin strongarmed Armenia into joining Russia’s Eurasian Union and allowing Moscow to keep troops stationed in the country.
