Turkey: The Eastern Question is back

BBC diplomatic correspondent Jonathan Marcus discusses the return of the “Eastern Question.” In the 19th Century, the question was, What would happen when the Ottoman Empire relinquished control of its territory in Eastern Europe? Coincidentally, western powers ended up going to war in Crimea with an expansionist Russia that was trying to fill the void left by the Ottoman Empire. In present times, Turkey has again overreached, Moscow is expanding its influence in Eastern Europe and the Middle East and western allies are at risk of getting dragged into a war with Russia.
