Behind the scenes of the EU-IMF ‘shit-storm’ on Ukraine

EU Observer runs a feature on the resignation of Lithuanian banker-turned Ukraine economy minister Aivarus Abromavicius, which has morphed into Kiev’s latest corruption scandal. Abromavicius resigned from his post in Kiev, citing corruption in President Poroshenko’s inner circle. But, Ukrainian investigative journalists have alleged Abromavicius was under fire for reform failures in his ministry, as well as possible involvement in some of the corruption on which he blew the whistle. As the mess grows, Kiev is coming under increasing pressure from the EU and IMF, which have pledged a combined $30 billion out of a $40 billion international rescue package for Ukraine.
