EU Observer covers an EU summit on the Western Balkans that is taking place Thursday. The agenda is dominated by the migrant crisis, even though little political and economic reform is occurring in the region. The Western Balkan route has become the primary method of migration to the EU, and about 3,000 refugees from the Middle East and Africa are expected to be crossing Macedonia and Serbia everyday for the next three months. Still, Germany has received more asylum applications from Albania than any other country. Many Balkan nationals have been attempting to gain asylum in Germany, despite having next to no chance of succeeding, due to the lack of opportunity in Western Balkan countries, like Albania, Kosovo and even Serbia.
