Greek PM Tsipras quits and calls early polls

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced on television Thursday that he is resigning and calling for an early election, BBC reports. The election is reportedly scheduled to occur on September 20, but the date has yet to be confirmed. Tsipras is facing a rebellion from the far left of his leftist Syriza party who opposed his decision to cave the demands of Greece’s creditors during negotiations on the new bailout package.
