Moldovan PM says not seeking closer ties with Russia

RFE/RL interviewed Moldova’s new prime minister, Valeriu Strelets, who rejected criticism that he is seeking closer economic ties with Russia. Strelets, who is the leader of a pro-EU coalition, spoke with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev last week and invited him to visit Chisinau. Russia has imposed several bans on Moldovan agricultural imports in recent years in attempt to sway Moldova away from signing an EU Association Agreement that Chisianu inked last year. Moscow is now lifting some of the embargoes, particularly on agricultural products from a pro-Russia region in Moldova.
