Turkish prosecutors open probe against Kurdish leader Demirtas

Turkey has launched a criminal probe into Selahattin Demirtas, the leader of pro-Kurdish party HDP, AFP reports. Turkish prosecutors claim Demirtas incited bloody protests in October 2014. The probe comes amid a Turkish military campaign against Kurdish militants and less than two months following a parliamentary election in which the HDP’s strong performance cost Erdogan the constitutional changes he desires. Erdogan is now calling for snap elections in order to get a second chance at claiming new powers. He also attacked Demirtas personally just after the announcement of the probe.
