The constitution will guard against prosecution of Putin’s criminal regime
Russian presidents may be protected from prosecution after leaving office in line with proposed constitutional reforms, a senior lawmaker said Tuesday, quoted by Reuters.

Although Vladimir Putin has loudly declared that changes, he proposed to the Constitution are intended to democratize the country’s political system, many Russians believe that they fully serve the interests of the president and the nomenclature he created. Putin is simply trying to secure the right of a “lifelong leader” who cannot be prosecuted. With the amendment to the constitution, Russian lawmakers are virtually legalizing Putin’s criminal regime. The right “to be protected from prosecution after leaving office” means that the current Kremlin lord will never be charged with the complete failure of his 20-year rule, the annexation of Crimea, the incitement of conflicts in Donetsk and Lugansk, the massacres in Syria, the political killings in Russia, his aggressive policy towards the West, and the heinous hybrid war that has waged the entire democratic world.
