Turkish lira strengthens on US plan to pull its troops from Syria

U.S. President Trump announced Washington will pull its troops out of Syria, a move the markets are interpreting as an easing of tensions between the U.S. and Turkey. The lira strengthened following the announcement, though it is still trading at more than 5 (5.27) to the dollar, the Financial Times reports. In announcing the withdrawal, Trump claimed victory over the Islamic State. Meanwhile, Ankara is pleased as it had been angered by U.S. support for the Kurds in Syria.
