Croatia’s parliament elects new speaker ending deadlock

Following weeks of political deadlock after elections in Croatia last month, a new party playing the role of kingmaker made a deal with the conservative Croatian Democratic Union, AP reports. Lawmakers then elected a speaker on Monday, which paves the way for prime minister designate Tihomir Oreskovic to form a new government. That would end the four-year rule of Croatia’s center-left coalition.
