Iran denies airspace access to Bulgarian PM’s plane en route to Saudi Arabia

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov’s plane to Saudi Arabia had to reroute to Turkey after Iran denied the aircraft access to its airspace in what Sofia described as an “inexplicable last-moment refusal”, Reuters reports. Sofia then summoned the Iranian charge d‘affaires, who blamed the incident on a “technical misconception.” Borisov was accompanied on the plane by former Bulgarian king Simeon Saxe-Coburg and several ministers. The Bulgarian delegation eventually arrived in Riyadh, and Borisov met with Saudi King Salman.
