Romania prevents Russian official visit to Moldova

Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Rogozin was forced to cancel his trip to Moldova on Friday after Romania blocked Rogozin’s plane from flying through Romanian airspace, forcing it to land in Minsk, Belarus, Balkan Insight reports. Rogozin has been banned from traveling to the EU since March 2014 when he backed Moscow’s annexation of Crimea. Rogozin was planning on joining Moldova’s pro-Russian President Igor Dodon in marking the 25th anniversary of Russia stationing troops in the breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria. Moldova’s pro-European government, though, prohibited him from coming and also stopped other Russians from entering the country to mark the anniversary.
